In this cancer research class, I’ve learned a lot about how people find data about cancer, and how that data can be useful. I learned a lot about DNA and genome sequencing, and how companies use that to figure out information about cancer. The information can then further be used to help figure out how to cure, or slow down certain types of cancers. This greatly reduces the number of deaths that is caused by cancer, and the knowledge also allows for companies to develop more advanced technologies to fight cancer. Along with learning about cancer, I also learned a lot about coding. We did a lot of coding in Jupyter Notebook, and I was taught how to create certain graphs or plots. I also learned how to import specific data sets, and how to graph or plot that data. I could then use the information from the graph to help further analyze specific characteristics of specific cancers. Overall, I had a lot of fun in this cancer research class. It gave me something productive to do over the summer and forced me to actively think more. My favourite lesson was probably learning about mutations since it was more interactive, and there was a lot more plotting happening. It was alos definitely the most challenging, though, but I think that’s what made it the most memorable lesson.
