Common Gene Mutations
Today, we made charts that graphed the most commonly mutated genes, given the kind of cancer that is causing the genes to be mutated. The first chart provides information about the most common mutated genes in breast cancer. With the chart, we could clearly see that the gene that had the most mutations was PIK3CA. We can then also see that the least commonly mutated gene is LRP1B. I also got the information for the cancers from xenabrowser.net. It provides a lot of good information that’s for public use about all of the different kinds of cancers. I then did a second chart on my own, and I decided to chart out colon cancer. With this new chart, I could see that TTN was the most commonly mutated gene. I could also tell that DCHS2 was the least commonly mutated gene. This kind of information can be important for cancer research as it provides a better understanding for experts to know which genes they need to worry about when dealing with a certain type of cancer.
